CURATED BY YOURS TRULY.

Having a good Playlist to vibe witH is Essential these days.

Music is a major part of my life. Let's start right there. Although I'm no musician, music plays a pretty special role in my every day. There isn't a moment or memory that I cannot tie back to music - it's always there like a soundtrack playing in the background. Take a listen to this one while you read on: A1. Vol. 1 (Part 1). It started at a young age; you could always find me somewhere there was music. I found a safe space, source of inspiration, and form of expression all in one perfectly harmonized place. Getting lost in music was, and still is, an all time favourite way to spend time that I liken to a the centre of gravity I ground myself in. I can sit with it for hours and study lyrics, the concepts of entire compilations, but above all I love the way music makes you feel.

From recording my favourite 90's hits on a cassette, to burning CDs, or downloading mp3s on Napster and Limewire (shhhhhh), the art of playlist making isn't new to me. Fast forward to the 2020's and streaming services where algorithmically calculated formulas are now the default dictating your consumption. The idea of a few data inputs having the authority over my mood and day just stopped flying with me; it's kind of limiting and can get a bit chaotic to be honest. After fussing with my algorithms for too long, I decided to get back to the tradition of playlist making. There's too much noise and fabrication out there impeding on quality music. In true me fashion, I decided to take back control of my music as an act of rebellion against the machine and endless seas of bots. Having a good playlist to vibe with is essential these days. I don't know about you but I don't have the time to get derailed by a poorly predicted vibe that lacks emotional intelligence.

The process of pulling together songs that can paint a picture alone is fulfilling, but you know you've mastered the art form when you can curate a whole listening experience. My taste in music is vast, untamed, yet collected. I have a diverse range of genres in my collection which is directly attributed to my infinite curiosity. I have a deep appreciation for the artistry that goes into producing music - from writing, to engineering, to the actual performance, which I take into high regard when making my music selections. That, and the feelings being evoked. After all, a good playlist should be a multi-sensory experience that has the power to pull at your heart strings, or light a fire deep inside that propels you into action. Or in complete opposition, inspires a calm and quiet space in your mind. Now, it's probably important to note that when sharing a playlist the listening experience may be subjected to the listener's personal preferences and reality - so don't take any dislike to heart.

I don't really want to name drop here or create any biases because this is not the forum for it but I'll preface with stating that I write and create from my own personal perspectives and am not endorsing any thing, just simply sharing my vibe with the broader community of music lovers. Some of the playlists will be a mix of Hip-Hop, Indie, and House, while others will be directed to a more specific time period or genre. I may even get into sub-genres., we'll see. Although I do have my (very obvious) favourites, I promise to introduce you to new bands, djs, artists, sounds, and genres regularly! The best part about curating playlists is the process and discovering new tracks or bands that somehow stay under the radar of the mainstream. In that same light, if you come across a dope artist or sound please send it my way or leave a comment below - I'm huge on expanding my music base.

All my playlists can currently be found on Spotify under an account named after my writing moniker, A1. I have so much music I'm slowly working through to organize - a total of 10,000 + songs and albums across 2 streaming platform, vinyls, and CDs (yes I still have some), not to mention all the music I lost on previous hard drives or have stored up in my mental vault. Check out the first series of my playlists: A1. Volumes on Spotify. Whether you're in need of some inspiration or just want some dope tracks to vibe with, I got you covered. Get started with my first 3 playlist drops:

If you're using your mobile Spotify app, you can scan the code to open each playlist directly, or see the button below. You can stay on top of new playlist drops by visiting the 05.
